Your Bio

Debra’s career began, seemingly by happenstance, in her early teens. Her incredible talent, used personally for designing her own wardrobe, was met with many requests for the creation of unique articles of clothing, accessories, and home furnishings from family, friends, neighbors, and their many referrals.

While still in high school, Debra continued to design and sew many pieces that were featured in very trendy upscale boutiques in Birmingham, Michigan. Her eye for fashion was given the opportunity to flourish by being chosen to go to New York to select clothing for sale in these boutiques.

Debra attended Parsons School of Design, in New York City. Parsons is the top fashion design school in America, where she was challenged in all aspects of fashion design. After Parsons, Debra moved to Los Angeles where she studied fashion merchandising through Brooks College.

Upon her arrival in Los Angeles, Motown Records hired her in a part time capacity as a music trend researcher. Her career there grew rapidly resulting in several promotions, finishing her tenure after 10 years as a product manager, managing recording projects. Simultaneously, Debra continued designing and constructing clothing, including accessory designs.

Debra’s fashion and accessory designs were in great demand for weddings, special occasions, business attire, and celebrity artists’ performances. Her line of custom made belts with unique buckles were sold in the Beverly Hills Neiman Marcus.

The demand and word of her unique designs spread quickly through Hollywood, resulting in celebrity personal shoppers seeking her out and bringing a multitude of requests for unique one-of-a kind fashions, including belts, and belt buckles made from precious metals, primarily gold and silver for their clientele.

Debra returned to Michigan to pursue her desire for increased academic experience. She earned her MBA and a PhD. She worked for a number of years in the professional corporate environment - all the while yearning to express her passion for creativity. This directs us to the present and Designs by DG.
